New hotel opens in Costa Rica to cater to tourism industry
NEW YORK — New York-based Salta Travel Agency and United Travel Agency announced plans Monday to open a new hotel and restaurant in Costa Rico, the second in the Caribbean country after a chain of hotels and restaurants opened last year.
The Costa Rica-based hotel, located in the upscale seaside resort town of Mota, is being constructed by Salta and United in partnership with Spanish hotel chain Hotel Costa Rica, and will offer guest rooms and dining options for $99 per night.
The Costa Rican government is providing $20 million in public funding to the hotel project, which will help to cover costs and make the project profitable.
The hotel will be the second Costa Rica hotel to open in the United States.
The first opened in Costa Ricans northern border city of Moya in 2012 for about $1.5 million.
The Moya location was shuttered due to a lack of hotel space.
“We are proud to bring Salta a new destination to Costa Rica,” said Salta President Tom Nolte.
“We look forward to connecting with our guests in the Costa Rican capital of San Jose, and the surrounding areas, for a long, productive partnership.”
Salta was founded in 2011 by a group of local Costa Rican entrepreneurs and investors.
Its first restaurant in the U.S. was opened in March 2015 in Salt Lake City.
The Costa Rican-based company operates more than 40 hotels and other resorts, including resorts in Costa Rican cities such as San Juan and Tulum.
Salta opened its first Costa Rican restaurant in San Juan, and in 2015, it opened its second in Tulum, and opened a new restaurant in Mota in January 2018.
The company operates about 30 restaurants across the country.
