Airbnb lets you add a fake Airbnb profile to make yourself look like a real one
Posted November 16, 2019 09:00:48 Airbnb is offering a tool to users who want to pretend to be someone they’re not to make themselves look like someone else, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re a fake profile.
Airbnb is adding the ability to add fake profiles to hosts listings, according to the company.
If you have a fake address or photo, Airbnb will let you add it as a guest profile, and add a “fake name” and “fake email address” to it, according the company’s blog post.
You can also change the fake name and email address, as well as add or remove other options to your profile.
You can add or delete other contact information, too, as long as it isn’t in the public listings you use to list the property.
If you add your fake name, you’ll also be able to choose from a list of fake photo locations, including fake cities like Seattle, Los Angeles, and New York City, the blog post reads.
You’ll need to check the “real name” box and then “include the photos you want to add as guest photos” before you’re able to add the fake address, according Airbnb.
You’ll also need to include a photo of yourself and your real name in your profile description.
If your real-name and fake address are both identical, you can also use the same photo, the company notes.
But you can’t actually add fake photos to your hosts listings.
Instead, you’re going to need to get a photo that looks real to Airbnb.
To do that, you need to be a member of the hosts group.
You need to then create a profile that matches the profile picture.
Then you’ll need the photo you want the fake listing.
The photo needs to be uploaded to Airbnb, and it must be posted within a day or so, according.
The company says the option to add photos can only be used once per Airbnb member account.
The option can also be disabled, though, which Airbnb says makes it harder to use the feature.
But it does offer an option to disable photos.
If that’s not an option, you could just make a screenshot of your address and email, but then you can just remove the photos from your profile, the Airbnb blog post says.
The service isn’t the only way to add a bogus Airbnb profile.
If a friend wants to pretend they’re someone else they’re looking up on Airbnb, they can create a new profile using the same fake name.
But the real-life friend would need to go through Airbnb and sign up for a new account.
Airline passengers can also create a fake host account and send guests to fake hotels in places like Japan, Australia, and Germany, the site says.
Airbnb’s post on the service’s blog explains the process.
